Free Spanish Class at Florida Blue 10/11

Have you ever thought about learning Spanish? If so, now is the time to take advantage of this free opportunity to learn a new language free of charge. Florida Blue is offering free Spanish classes for everyone in our community to learn this new skill.

According to Pew Research, Spanish is currently the fastest growing, non-English language in the United States. Over 40 million people in the U.S. speak the language which makes it the third largest Spanish speaking country in the world – behind only to Colombia and Mexico. The state of Florida has one of the highest Spanish speaking populations in the nation, especially in cities like Miami and surrounding areas.

History tells us that the U.S. has a rich history in the Spanish culture. The early European settlers like Ponce de Leon spoke Spanish and founded the historic city of St. Augustine, Florida way back in 1565. The Spanish culture has been rooted in this country for more than 452 years, so it is no wonder why Spanish is the second most popular languages in the U.S. today. Did you know that in 1819, Florida was sold by Spain to the United States?

Even the American media has been influenced due to the dense population of Spanish speaking people. Large television networks like Azteca America, Telemundo, and Univision are broadcasted all over the U.S. These stations are responsible for providing content such as telenovelas, dramas, reality shows, and hit films all featured in Spanish. Univision is based out of Manhattan, NY but have many other studios and locations located near Miami, FL.
