AARDWOLF BREWING 4TH ANNIVERSARY, SEPTEMBER 9: Celebrating its Fourth Anniversary is Aardwolf Brewing, located at 1461 Hendricks Ave.  in the city’s San Marco district. Aardwolf burst onto the Florida beer scene in early 2013, and its 15-barrel brewhouse produces a wide variety of beer styles, from Belgian Ales to Sours to IPAs to Brown Ales to Imperial Stouts to Barrel-aged beers and everything in between. Maybe one of the most unique beers to be poured in Jax is Aardwolf’s Lactic Zeppelin, a Berliner Weisse with the funk of Brettanomyces. The brewery building was home to a municipal ice plant dating back to the 1920’s and then a tile factory. The tap room features the brick wall from the ice plant days. Taking its name from the “aardwolf,” an insectivorous, nocturnal mammal native to Africa, it also means “earth wolf,” with a translation from “humulus lupulus,” the name for hops. If last year’s anniversary party was any indication, this year’s tap list will feature numerous house beers with hourly tappings of many new recipes, variants, and favorites. The tap list will be released as the anniversary date moves closer. For a further look at Aardwolf Brewing, take a look at last year’s anniversary preview story.

INTUITION ALE WORKS OKTOBERFEST, SEPTEMBER 23: The Oktoberfest celebration is a yearly tradition at Intuition Ale Works, 929 E. Bay Street, adjacent to the Sports Complex. Break out the lederhosen and dirndls for the sixth annual festival. The event features the brewery’s Oktoberfest beer, a malty amber Marzen style, along with additional beers served in the tap room and the events bar in the brewery space. A $10 ticket gets you a 20-ounce commemorative event mug and a large pretzel by Community Loaves (and you can buy more). Sausage Paradise will be on site with nine different sausages. Sign up for one of the Oktoberfest games, and try your skill and luck to win brewery prizes. Enjoy polka and dance music by DJ EL. Last year’s annual celebration was the first to be held at Intuition’s Bay Street location, which had opened just a month earlier. The party takes place indoors and outdoors. Start practicing that stein-hold! Eins, zwei, drei, Gsuffa!

Prost and Cheers!
