“Women Leaders: Secrets to Success” with Deborah Anthony, Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Each week on “Women Leaders: Secrets to Success”, our host, Jessica Franzini, talks to women from around the country who are taking names and breaking glass. This week, Jessica spoke to Deborah Anthony, Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

Ms. Anthony earned her undergraduate degree from University of California, Santa Barbara, and her Master’s degree from Antioch University in Santa Barbara. Her early work was in helping empower survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. After a move to New York in 2002, she turned towards addictions and developed her skills in motivational interviewing, guided imagery and “acudetox” a 10 point acupuncture protocol to alleviate post acute withdrawal symptoms.

What do you feel are your key personal factors for your success?: Being able to turn so-called “failures” into learning experiences.

What is the biggest mistake you would tell your younger self to avoid?: None. Each experience was necessary to become who I am.

Do you have a mentor and do you feel it is important to have one?: I have had mentors (not in any formal sense) but role models I have tried to emulate. I think it is very important.

Is there a book you can recommend that would be valuable to read for a woman starting out in business?: In my field, Casey Truffo’s How to Be a Wealthy Therapist. In general, You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

How do you achieve balance between your professional life and personal life?: Meditation, Reflection, and knowing the importance of work/life balance and reminding myself of the importance of my work.
