Each week on 5 Minutes With, Steve Strum interviews interesting people from Jacksonville. This week Steve spoke to Alice Krauss, from Brooks Rehabilitiation Adaptive Sports.
Alice: “We are a community based program that uses sport and recreation to improve health and quality of life outcomes for individuals of all ages and abilities living with physical and /or visual disability. No experience or aptitude is required. Just a desire for Fun, Fitness and Friendship! There is no fee for participation and all equipment, adaptations and coaching are provided free of charge. We offer limited free transportation to/from our activities across 4 counties in NE Florida. To meet the needs and interests of our diverse community, we offer 13 Weekly Activities and numerous Special Events each month. We offer team and individual activities as well as both indoor and outdoor events. One may choose to participate at either a recreational or competitive level in each of our activities. Our Weekly Events vary from mindfulness based yoga and archery to wheelchair rugby , wheelchair basketball and bowling. Our Special Events include horseback riding ,surfing, water skiing, rock climbing and more! We strive to eliminate the many barriers to full participation in a meaningful and healthy life experienced by individuals living with disability in NE Florida. We understand the interrelatedness of the mind , the body and the spirit so we design our programming to address physical social, emotional , educational and spiritual needs of individuals at each of our events. We also recognize that disability impacts family and friends so we invite them to participate alongside their loved one at no charge. Enhancing lives through sports and recreation!”
Buzz TV Host Stephen Strum is a Financial Advisor with 20 years’ experience in management and sales leadership, most noteworthy for management of flagship institutions and achievement of large financial goals.
