Gamers are a unique community, with most outsiders having a stereotypical view of their preferred cuisine. So many people would be surprised to see the varied offerings of a gaming-themed food truck. I just so happened to come across such a truck that’s newly running around the streets of Jacksonville. Joyshtick food truck is bringing their own unique take on gamer cuisine and you won’t even need to stomp a Koopa to try it.
Their menu is somewhat limited when compared to some of the other trucks on the road here in town, but what they may lack in quantity is certainly compensated for in quality. I was torn between their Angry Birds (chicken breast strips breaded in crushed Cool Ranch Doritos and fried) and their Master Chief (handmade burger topped with 3 cheese bacon mac & cheese, arugula, pepper jelly, and more bacon on a Cinotti’s potato roll). Ultimately, I went with the Master Chief, because, well, I just couldn’t turn down the double bacon possibilities. The burger is extremely fresh and grilled to perfection, and the interaction of the pepper jelly with the bacon mac & cheese tops the dish off perfectly. Not to be outdone, the locally-sourced Cinotti’s potato roll envelops the whole burger in a fluffy cloud of flavor all its own.
When it comes to their side dishes, Joyshtick doesn’t disappoint. There’s their 3 cheese bacon mac & cheese they’ve named Pacman that you can either have as it comes or fried up into their evolved form as Pokéballs. I felt that the mac on the burger was more than enough for my lunch, so I instead opted to try their hand cut, house seasoned fries. These beastly wedges are crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, a bit like yours truly, and are the perfect compliment to the mighty Master Chief.
So whether you’re trudging through Yoshi’s Island or the hard streets of San Andreas, gather your gold coins and take a quest to find Joyshtick food truck before you engage in Mortal Kombat. Let’s hope you can FINISH IT!
