With Irma set to visit the greater Jax area over the weekend, many are in the midst of hurricane preparations, including finding and gathering supplies. One hot commodity right now is bottled drinking water, with store shelves out of stock. Several local breweries and craft beer businesses have offered to fill water containers or offer cans of water to those in need.
Wicked Barley Brewing Company, 4100 Baymeadows Rd., Jax, will fill containers with water (up to a total of 20 gallons) through Friday, September. 8, at its brewery during the hours of 10am-8pm.
Green Room Brewing, 228 Third St. North, Jax Beach, will also fill bottles or other containers with water.
Veterans United Craft Brewery, 8999 Western Way, Jax, offered 50 free filled quart cans (“Crowlers”) of water on September 6; following that, the filled cans will be available for $2 each.
Beer:30 San Marco, 1543 San Marco Blvd., a craft beer retail shop and tap room, offered 50 free quart cans (“Crowlers”) of water on September 6.
Hurricane Irma has also affected several beer events scheduled for Saturday, September 9. The 4th Anniversary Party at Aardwolf Brewing has been postponed until further notice. The Bruval Craft Beer and Music Fest at the Seawalk Pavilion in Jax Beach has been rescheduled to Saturday, November 18.
On Saturday, September 2, popular Atlantic Beach craft beer bar and growler “filling station” Brewz opened a second location in the Flagler Center plaza in Bartram Park, at 14866 Old St. Augustine Rd. The bar is known for its free food and variety of beer. The new venue is larger both in terms of physical size and the expanded tap list. Owner Brian Slucker and General Manager Krista Edsall are looking forward to welcoming the community to the Brewz family. Read the preview story here.
Also on Saturday, September 2, Bottlenose Brewing released its collaboration beer, brewed with Intuition Ale Works. The beer, a Raspberry Tart, initially was tapped exclusively at Bottlenose Brewing, along with a selection of Intuition beers. Take a look at the pre-release interview with Bottlenose Brewing Head Brewer Chas Nemecek for more information. Bottlenose Brewing expects to begin brewing its house beers after delivery of the last pieces of equipment.
