Hey, hey, how are you today
Speaker 1
Hi, I’m James Fenimore. I almost forgot that one. I’m just very excited about our guest.
Speaker 2
We have. So am I. We have a really, really cool guest today.
Speaker 1
Joining us is Carleeka Basnight-Menendez. How are you doing?
Speaker 3
I am doing great. How are you guys doing?
Speaker 1
So good. What? Tell us a little bit about what you do. Really? Just you.
Speaker 3
So I do a few things speaking. I’m a mom, I’m a wife. But most importantly, I love Jesus. And I love talking about Jesus. But also merging biology and the Bible together so that we can live, heal whole, fulfilled lives.
Speaker 2
She’s talking my language. I mean, that is the things that I look at to society today, and I really wish we would get proactive, especially for our children. Like, I feel like as adults, I want us all to thrive. But we have some accountability in it. For them, it is our job, right?
Speaker 3
Absolutely.
Speaker 2
So for us to go back and get proactive. So tell us a little bit more about what you do and how do you do that. What does that look like for you?
Speaker 3
Oh gosh. So one I’m always in prayer right. And everything I believe for me let me talk about me starts with prayer, ends with prayer. And even throughout the day, asking Holy Spirit to guide and lead me, or who to talk to, when to talk to them, and more importantly, because I’m gonna just be transparent, knowing when to be quiet. And that can be a struggle for so many people. Learning how to practice strategic silence and say, okay, that’s not what I need to say at this time. I may not need to say it at all. And so when we think of our wellness we’re talking about, we hear a lot of people say, church lingo from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet. That is, our world is where everything flows from here, here, here, and on down. And so when we think of even putting on the whole armor, right, you don’t just put on pieces, you’re supposed to wear all of it. And so when we think of wellness is in body in every single part of us down to the cellular level.
Speaker 2
Love the Ephesians, the armor of God. It is one of my favorite passages. It’s one of my favorite books as a whole. I’m actually getting a chance at a couple weeks to go. So I’m going to walk the footsteps of Paul. But so tell me a little bit more about, if you don’t mind. I’m kind of interrupting. But if we’re sharing with the community when we’re really looking at that from, you know, you think of the armor, helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth. You know, one of the ones that really I learned last year is the reason they break those down is the concept of the armor. So like the gospel of peace, the armor of the soldiers would have been spike, so they would planted their feet. So for us to plant our feet and stand firm. Yes. But the one that really stood out to me was the belt of truth in Roman culture. Back then, they would have believed that all of your emotions and your spirits came from your gut. So the tying of that to the spirit of truth and the truth of God controls our emotions and our behaviors and our gut of how we feel, which is true.
Speaker 3
Absolutely. I mean, think about and we can all think about this when we feel a little overwhelmed or we feel fearful, where a lot of times does it start. For some people that stress, it’s in their shoulders, right? But for some, for me, I can feel it right in my gut. We often hear the pit of my gut. Oh my God, that really took my breath away. Or that really hit me in a place like that almost knocked me down. And so I do believe biblical principles and our everyday living, all of it intertwines. And we don’t have to separate even in business. Right? Because a lot of people think, oh, I can’t talk about Jesus. I can’t talk about God all the time in my business, if you don’t like it, you probably shouldn’t talk to me. But knowing when I don’t have to separate any of those things because it’s all one.
Speaker 1
How do you, so, so do you take biblical principles and then you merged with biology. Can you speak about that a little bit more?
Speaker 3
Yes. And so when I think of our human body, yes, we have various systems and organs that have a particular function, but even in the Bible, even as we were talking about the whole armor, they each have a function, right? They each have a purpose. So when we know the purpose of something, then we can value it even the better. So it’s even saying, let me be a good steward over my body. And so let’s just start with our head when we take our mind, what are you thinking about? What are your thoughts? What? And even the Bible says, you know what protecting our ears. Gates. Our eye gates put guard in our heart. So when we think of those things, you can take a biblical principles such as, you know, renewing our mind, right? That’s a biblical principle. But then how do we do that in the natural? Getting good rest, eating good food. Right. Making sure that our stress levels are down, and then thinking about what we’re thinking about. A lot of times that’s why our actions, everything, have to be in alignment. So our mind, our will, our mouth, our heart, then our actions. And when all of those things are aligned, then that’s when I believe that healing can take place. Because we’re in a position to receive it. Love can happen. We’re able to receive it and give it, and the ultimate love is God’s love.
Speaker 2
That’s powerful. I mean, like when you think of all the context of the way we walk as humans, we miss so much of the thoughts of our minds, the things that we think become the things that we do, or the things that we think and say become contracts and agreements that we’ve made that aren’t real. We were talking a little bit before the show started about some of my personal walk with things I’ve committed to and said, you know, I may struggle with sugary foods and then realized that if I kept saying that over and over and over, that I continued in my mind to think I was going to struggle with then I’m always going to struggle, right.
Speaker 3
It’s like saying, oh my God, I’m tired, I’m tired. You’re just gonna stay there before you know it all day. 12 hours that went by and it’s like you have no energy because you repeated that over and over. And I’m even very intentional on how, when I’m going to sleep, because the subconscious mind never sleeps.
So if we go to bed angry, right, we think about things, worry. You go to bed worried. Typically you wake up with the same repetitive thoughts and it shows in your actions. So now you’re dealing with depression and these are real things mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially. Because financially people get addicted to certain things, right. And so now you’re trying to feed this addiction. And I do believe whatever we feed is going to lead. Well, I mean, they say that it’s like the dog which one gets better? You know, whichever the one you feed is the one that happens.
Speaker 2
I feel like we could have this conversation for a really long time. So we’re going to need to get to know each other, but because I do, I think we’re drastically missing as a society as a whole, the context of that holistic, even when you look at doctors, like I’ve talked to so many neurologists and nutritionists, but they don’t learn the other, like, you know, their knowledge is is like, I didn’t learn nutrition. And the, you know, nutritionist is like, I am thinking whole body. So when you’re looking at our systems, God didn’t make a mistake. Each part has a matter, you know, spiritual, mental, physical, financial. So they are probably going to tell us here in a second that we’re going to be running out of time. So before they do it, is there anything about your company or how people can get connected with you or if they want to know more, what would you like to share with them before we.
Speaker 3
Absolutely. So we’re we’re definitely honing in more and not just making awareness when it comes to women’s wellness, specifically menopause. And I believe menopause is it’s a transition. It’s not the end of life. It’s the beginning of the second bloom where you’re learning yourself, reinventing yourself, knowing who you are and your identity tied to how Christ sees you versus the labels and potentially lives that may have been spoken over your life so people can connect with me on social media, Carleeka Basnight-Menendez, right? Just start typing all the letters of the alphabet. I hope pop up, or they can also reach me at insoinc.org.
