How has your business changed in the past 12 months?

Over the last 12 months my business has been rather steady – I’m networking, making connections for collaborations across niches, and holding steady to attain/meet my quarterly metrics.

Describe a Failure in your Career.

A general failure that I often reflect on is shying away from going after my dreams. I spent the front part of my career following an unwritten path that I believed I was suppose to follow. Once I discovered that I was free to explore my strengths and go after what I was passionate about, things began to shift in my favor.

What about your company makes you the most proud?

I’m most proud of the relevance and need of the services I offer. When I first developed my focus areas, I wanted to work in areas that would continue to be needed and impact made.

How do you motivate people to give their best?

I motivate people by helping them see that we call have something to contribute. Sometimes my clients are too close to see the value they bring to the workplace, family, and others around them.

Hi. And welcome back to another segment of Industry Champions where we highlight the best and the brightest leading the industries of tomorrow. This is your host, Olivia Rouse. And I’m so excited to be on with Pamela Davis. And I thank you so much for being here with us today.

Pamela Davis
Oh, thank you for having me.

Olivia Rouse
So I want to ask, what’s been bringing you joy in your work recently?

Pamela Davis
So the joy I get is from just confirmation of my work. I have clients that, sit with me through a coaching session or even through a workshop or training that I’ve delivered, and then I hear back that they have found, some type of, joy for them.

So whether it’s someone that was interviewing and was able to land the job or someone that was really coming for a confidence building and is able to exercise, acts of courage. So that’s what brings me joy.

Olivia Rouse
I love that instilling those moments of courage and and joy in others when in their professional world is so huge. So tell me, what do you do and how do you help them start to work through their courage?

Pamela Davis
Okay, so I’m Doctor Pamela Davis and executive coach and owner of Growth Matters. That’s my company. I started about, eight years ago. And so I work with my clients through coaching, training and assessment tools like Disc and lead 360 to help them lead, communicate and grow.

And quite simply put it, it’s a way for me to help them build their leadership capacity, be able to communicate more effectively and confidently, and then gain insights from assessment tools to help them, elevate their confidence.

And then which also impacts, impacts the leadership and communication piece as well. So personal growth through being able to get a better understanding of how they’re showing up.

Olivia Rouse
I love that. And we were just talking about how impactful it is to understand your communication style, to be a better leader, and how that just changes organizations altogether. So tell me, what do most leaders not understand about their own leadership style that impacts their team?

Pamela Davis
Yes. So oftentimes, you know, Forbes and LinkedIn are two big, resources that share how when things go wrong in an organization that more times than not, behavior and communication or poor behavior and lack of communication have some type of connection with it.

And so oftentimes people are not pausing long enough for the feedback, whether they’re asking pausing to ask for the feedback or willing to pause where people can initiate feedback to them about how their communication style is impacting them as an individual or impacting this organization.

And so through my coaching, I have several, exercises and techniques I use to help not just individuals, but even teams be able to posture themselves in a way to ask for feedback. Feedback is how we get better and so, you know, when, when we are running the business, running the organization so fast that we’re not making time for that, we miss opportunities to make adjustments that could really cost us, a good employee or, take the culture of our organization in general.

Olivia Rouse
Well, I mean, so many wonderful things that you touched on there, and it’s just so huge about the impact that happens as a result of the communication and how something that seems so small really is the seed that kind of impacts it all.

So, I love the way that you’re able to help bring those blind spots almost to light and educate through that so that they can be better and transform organizations. Like you said, we see every day that organizations fall apart and wow, if we could just change communication one conversation at a time, we’d get those feedback loops that are so necessary.

So I would love to know what something you’re excited for in the future announcing your line of work. And as we enter age of I, I mean how communication is just so much more foundational for success.

Pamela Davis
Yeah. And so with the work that I do, oftentimes people are not as excited to say, hey, I need help. And so I feel like as leaders are planning, you know, closing out first quarter or even K12 organizations, as they’re getting ready to close out of school year and start a new one.

What I would, like to see leaders do, especially in terms of an opportunity to do business with me, is just reflect on making the time to invest in their team members.

It saves you so much in the long run. I know, too often because of time, people make a lot of assumptions about, oh, well, they’re okay with that. They’re fine. And when it comes to leadership or, I don’t need to spend as much time on the communication. I really need to be working on this. Whatever.

You know, that happens to be for them. But top of mind, behavior and communication is critical in terms of impacting all other areas.

And so, being able to, tap into resources that I offer through leadership, communication and personal growth is leveraging the long game.

Olivia Rouse
I love that because keeping that long game in mind just changes how you’re able to take the right steps to end up where you really want to be.

Versus so much communication is reactive, and I don’t know how much leaders are aware that if you change it to proactive and continue to shoot for that, you really change the game. So that’s so wonderful.

Where can I follow and learn more about Growth Matters?
