About Us: Bring Your Brokenness is a 501(c)3 charitable organization committed to faith-based eating disorder recovery. Bring Your Brokenness provides articles and resources focused on eating disorder recovery, support groups (locally in NE Florida and online), recovery retreats, meal support, and recovery coaching. The directors are working diligently to raise money for the purpose of opening a nonprofit residential treatment facility in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Our founder, Amie Shields, is passionate about helping others who struggle with an eating disorder. She leads this ministry and considers it a privilege to walk with others along this difficult road. With joy, she encourages those who are struggling to hold on to hope. She is a living testimony of God’s healing and faithful provision.
Amie is grateful for opportunities to share her story in churches, schools, and events all over the US. Her story is one of childhood trauma, sexual assault, self-harm, depression, PTSD, and the deadly disease of anorexia nervosa that nearly took her life. Through all of the immense pain and suffering, Amie identifies the beauty in the brokenness woven through every season of her life. It’s a story of God’s faithfulness, grace, and healing.
Admittedly one in much need of grace, Amie brings a unique perspective of what it looks like to live authentically, even in the middle of recovery challenges. While acknowledging her brokenness along the way, she has committed her life to teaching others how to walk in freedom in spite of seemingly hopeless challenges and temptations. Amie’s messages are being used to inspire others; raise awareness of eating disorders and challenge the stigmas associated with them; address negative body image and self-esteem issues; and to offer hope that recovery from anything in life is possible. As one who loves to sing, Amie includes the power of encouraging and uplifting music to communicate that message of hope in the sharing of her story.
If you or someone you love is struggling with an eating disorder, please reach out to us. We would love to be a part of your recovery story, because recovery is possible. There is hope!
