What is the biggest change in marketing that you see coming in the next 2 years?

1) Thanks to the pandemic, it’s all about work/life integration. With respect to the grey area of ‘integration,’ I predict more B2B companies embracing social media platforms such as Instagram and Tik Tok to engage and get in the hearts and minds of their customers, reaching them on their personal time.

2) That age-old silo between sales and marketing will disappear. If we preach having a 360-degree view of the customer, we need to empower sales and marketing to be aligned as ONE team with the common mission of reaching the hearts and minds of their customers.

Are there any trade organizations or groups that you belong to?

I am an executive member of the C-Suite Network serving on its Thought Council. I am also a Board member serving both the Indiana University Student Foundation and the Young Professionals for Parkinson’s, an affiliate of The Michael J. Fox Foundation. I am a member of NSA, and I am also a contributing friend to the Acceleration Economy.

What is one tip that you would give when it comes to digital marketing?

When storytelling over digital marketing, don’t overthink it and listen to your gut. We only have seconds to make a lasting impression so make sure your top data points / takeaways are what you lead with . . . or all you use in your marketing. Two or three key points max are memorable!

What is something in your career that you learned from by making a mistake?

I learned from a sales loss, a sales loss which landed me on an internal Microsoft podcast for 7,000+ people to tune into where I spoke about the loss and the lessons learned. Talk about vulnerability in action. That broadcast landed me in a Microsoft keynote where I spoke in front of 10,000 people about a major win five months after my loss, in which I analyzed my pitfalls, course corrected my lessons learned, and then applied them to becoming a better, trusted customer advocate and advisor. This moment in time empowered me to take a calculated risk in my career to reinvent my professional life.
