Estate Planning: Elder Law and Crisis Planning (Medicaid Protection)
Who is your typical client?
People who pre-plan and People who are in crisis. Pre-planners are those who come in knowing they need some sort of plan. Usually they want to know the difference between a Will and a Trust and what’s best for them. Crisis Cases are people who have a loved one in the nursing home and are realizing that a lack of planning will cause their assets to be drained because of how expensive long term care is. We help these families qualify for Medicaid.
What is your approach or philosophy to winning or representing a case?
We love helping families gain a sense of peace knowing that their families will be taken care of in the way that they would choose.
What is one misconception that you feel people may have about your firm?
One of the biggest misconceptions about estate planning is that having a Will keeps you out of probate when the opposite is true – probate is the “proving of a Will”. We talk a LOT about Trusts and most people just don’t know how Trusts work or they think a Trust is only for people who are wealthy. Trusts are “the greatest thing since sliced bread” and we often hold free educational seminars for the public just to educated those interested on how Trusts work and how we can use them for different types of planning.
