Christopher Smoot
President at Smoot’s Heritage Animal Conservation Inc

Short company description:

Using bleeding edge technology to heal Mother Earth while feeding families.

It our purpose to promote Heritage Animal education, and understanding the importance it has in the stability of our nation both in security as well as food supply.

With quantitative genetic breeding, we are working to restore Heritage animals that have traditionally fed human beings and are now on the brink of Extinction. We are currently working with nine separate breeds that are listed as threatened or endangered through the the American Heritage Conservatory.

We are working to end what we consider unethical practices in agriculture that both lower the quality of the animals life as well as decreases the quality of the product. We are using quantitative genetic theory with intellectual property we’re developing in R (opensource programming language) that we are hoping to quantify our beliefs with and distribute freely to promote better ethics in our industry.

For example we are currently working on a study showing the effects of the deprivation nutrition and sleep caused by shipping of chickens within the first 72 hours of life cause over the growth rate versus those that are given the optimal nutrition needed in the first 72 hours of life. This unfortunately is a very common industry practice.

We try to do this from a place of understanding that no one gets into agriculture for any other reason than Love of Animals and it is our belief but if we can educate people to a better method they will naturally select it.
