What do you feel are your key personal factors for your success?:
I am not afraid of hard work! Relationships have gotten me so far. In my business you need to build relationships with clients, vendor and subcontractors. All of these people can refer you work and make or break your reputation. I have also gotten very good at what I call pivoting. Every situation has other options so I have learned nothing is too serious. Just find another way.

What is the biggest mistake you would tell your younger self to avoid?: I tried to do everything myself. I highly recommend you get an expert to help you early in the game. Hire the web designer, professional photographer and business coach. Without the help of professionals you are just slowing down your progress.

Do you have a mentor and do you feel it is important to have one?: I have been lucky enough to have a few. My old boss’s at my first design jobs were so wonderful and gifted me with so much of their design knowledge. I also have a business coach Gail Doby that has been instrumental in my business growth. Gail has also set me up in a mastermind group with other similar designers all over the country. We all support and help each other.

Is there a book you can recommend that would be valuable to read for a woman starting out in business?: Profit First. Eat the Frog.

How do you achieve balance between your professional life and personal life?: This is a daily struggle. I have made a conscious effort to make sure to try to be in the moment whatever I am doing. So- not thinking about work while at dinner with my husband. I also have to put me time on my calendar. I have to schedule vacations and fun time.
