Short company description:

Engaged Employment helps adults with autism and other intellectual disabilities overcome barriers and gain independence by providing comprehensive employment services and partnering with employers.

What Is Your Why (Why Are You In Business)?

I began Engaged Employment in 2017 because I saw first-hand how so many able and willing autistic adults struggle in our world with getting jobs and maintaining their employment. One of those adults was my 21-year-old son who like many, fell through the cracks of the system.

How did you get started in your field or work?

I began with training and then employment with a nonprofit disabilities and special needs service provider in South Carolina.

What’s one thing we should know that makes your company unique?

My company is unique because all our services are customized to the unique needs of each person. We specialize in helping adults with autism and other intellectual disabilities. There is no “one size fits all” program with Engaged Employment.

What are your biggest goals in the next 6 to 12 Months for your business?

My main goal in the next six months is to find a person or organization to take over Engaged Employment and make it bigger.

Who do you know that is impacted by Autism and how has that impacted you?

My younger son, Scott, who was diagnosed with autism when he was in first grade. It has impacted me in many ways, especially in developing more patience and empathy to those with challenges in our world.
