New seasonal dessert menu kicks off today at Black Sheep Restaurant

Award-winning pastry chef Rebecca Reed, pulled out all the stops last night at the preview event for the new dessert menu at Black Sheep Restaurant in Five Points. Each dish showcased her unique talents and versatility in her chosen field.

Let me share, and tempt you with these delights. We started with Thin Min Cookie Wedge, a play on the Girl Scout favorite Thin Mint Cookies. Dark chocolate and mint shortbread cookie, Greek yogurt is then piped on to the wafer, a mint powder sprinkled on the plate, and a mint meringue wedges provide a crunch that adds to the minty texture of the cookie.  If you are a chocolate lover, this is your dessert.

Next up the Sweet Corn Crème Brulee, voted my favorite. Using corn as the savory ingredient the fresh corn is infused into the cream with vanilla bean, salt, and egg to create a beautiful custard.  Torched then dressed in Caramel corn providing a sweet-salty finish. This dessert was heaven

The S’mores Pop a playful dish, house-made honey graham crackers provide the base. Belgian style milk chocolate truffle is topped with honey-vanilla marshmallow.  The treat of this dessert when your server lights the small amount of salt on the dish, creating a flame. Think oohs and ahhs moments. You are encouraged to use the salt to season the s’mores.

Another favorite was the Brown Butter Pie Slab There is nothing not to like about this dessert. The pecan pie is served warm with a scoop of peach ice cream the addition of pickled peaches providing a delicate balance to the richness of the dessert.

Last up Banana Pudding Fundae; all the flavors of the familiar southern classic banana pudding.  House-made banana ice cream, nilla wafers, and honey roasted peanuts elevate this dessert to star status.  Topped with vanilla whipped cream and freshly sliced bananas this is a dessert fit for royalty.
