What is the biggest change in marketing that you see coming in the next 2 years?

Smaller teams, merging roles, smaller budgets. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It may mean that we need to think in more efficient terms, tighten up our footprint a bit, determine how we can best serve our client without draining them of their resources (money). Remove some of the bloat from projects. Which will make us faster and better. We’re also looking at huge changes with how information is delivered, between social media platform shifts, targeted ad buys, and more. It’s not the days of billboards and TV commercials anymore. There’s a lot of digital opportunities to pay close attention to, because they’re always evolving.

What is the advantage to working with an outside media buyer as opposed to having just an internal marketing director?

Besides outside agencies having very specialized skills, I think one big advantage is that you’re collaborating with people who have a wide range of understanding when it comes to what works and what doesn’t. If I’m an in-house marketing director, I may know my industry very well, but what about the creative director who learned from last year’s failed Coca Cola campaign and now knows what works in the current climate and what doesn’t? He can translate that to the work he does for my brand. External ad professionals draw on many experiences across many fields and that’s what could really help my business.
